cosas de alemán

I can name a couple of alemán cities from travels, each for less than a day. So perhaps, I can also name a thing or two about alemanes.

Some (biased) observations (counting):

  • T-shirts inside out before laundry
  • Cold cuts, cheese, and a fresh loaf (untoasted) can be breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Sparkly water is for drinking, and lukewarm water is for washing hands
  • Bikes everywhere, and breaks for beer
  • Everything-is-repairable¹-mentality
  • Goes for a quick walk, and ends up being an hour
  • Embraces nudity (in the house)
  • Silence is the best background music
  • Es gibt kein schlechtes Wetter, nur schlechte Kleidung²
  • Expect an honest feedback or response³
  • Splits everything but the bill
  • Prefers using fingers for dynamic control (of food)

Footnotes

  1. If a pair of pants worn for 10 years now has a hole in the crotch, patch it up!
  2. The first iteration was, “you’re not made of sugar” and I was confused.
  3. Will spend 2 full min to fully ponder whether to pick up a flyer for free coupons, or reject there and then, so no one's deceived. "Hmm no thank you."
