I felt stupid for having sympathy towards a girl who was once me.
f had been taking on loads since the demand for monthly listings, on top tasked to build out an entire automated checklist that essentially would replace 60% of her job. I, on the other hand, had a fresh trainee/ex-accountant swiftly take over my sheets, as I prepared for a thorough handover before the potential indefinite leave. She then picked the worst possible time to make rookie mistakes, which later I learned, resulted in a ban on her access while still having to act as every one’s personal courier. Must have felt like having arms tied behind the back while steering the wheel with clenched teeth, barely surviving yet unable to make a squeal.
So I saved her a slice of d’s bday cake I baked to cheer her up.
INT. OFFICE - (next) DAY
I catch sight the crust and parchment paper on l’s desk. I pause for a second, then instantly piece the puzzles together, looking annoyed. I go back to my seat, across from f.
