Immediate afterthoughts: Patient Zero

Post-watch reviews (after figuring out I’d turned off the video play function on Spotify🤦‍♀):

  • All the cups and glasses being flipped off like what cats do, got me so confused, until I watched for the second time to realize it’s a warning from the Taylor, the ex wife.
  • Concrete walls like prisoner, caged bird, kept out from his cold cold heart.
  • The mirror does look like The 1975 frame; rarely are mirrors so narrow, and placed in portrait in huge mansions.
  • I wonder what the swimming meant? When all you’d hear is your own voice? Drowning in self-doubt, then surfacing with epiphany.
  • My favorite shot is when Taylor shoves the door open backwards, breaking the fourth wall, then bringing us back into the story. And when Colin’s character goes, “I know.”
  • Doors doors doors, where are they leading to?
  • Dakota and Taylor looked gorgeous in sparkly, barely clinging slip gowns. Fits Dakota’s typical aesthetic–a seductive vengeance.
  • Surprised by Cara Delevingne playing the other woman. All the mischievous sensual aura we need.
  • Why is the Dakota the drinker? Taylor’s not. And to the point of vomiting? Or is she disgusted by the revelation?
  • The last time Taylor was on the roof of a car, she survived a crash in Bad Blood; Cara was in that MV too. And her new beachy shoulder-length hair at the VMAS? Is she hinting Rep TV?? Also this comment when I revisited it “WHY DID I NOT REALIZE HOW ICONIC THIS WAS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER?!?!”
  • Love how Taylor spells “run” with the spillage. I’ve always wondered in the promo why she’s pointing at blood??
  • 1986-2022 apparently a clue to Verity (2026), the movie Dakota stars in. But why the free promo, unless the music will be featured?
  • Who does Dakota bring the second rose to? Mourning her future self?

Definitely TTPD coded, which brings us Maylors to speculate whether this is a warning song to Gabi, or whoever’s the next victim. But why would Taylor want be a savior if ultimately she believes their love story will linger and haunt her, Still alive, killing time at the cemetery/ Never quite buried, but also rise against all odds, We been on a winning streak/ He jokes that it’s heroin but this time with an “E”/ Cause the sign on your heart said it’s still reserved for me.

As honorable Taylor may seem, she is the pettiest lover. Imagine Taylor wanting to potentially save the girl from heartbreak and regret–from the supposed love of HER life? In Babylon, the latest release of an obvious Matty song, she sings of his current lover, Sneaking to the bathroom to call her mom/ And say, “It’s not workin’/It’s just not worth it if we’re not what he wants.

I genuinely view Patient Zero as Taylor swallowing the sour grapes, pretending to be honorable, a reverse, wicked way to warn Gabi what she’s committing to (and if they ever have kids??) will outlast the legendary one she had. Ultimately, Taylor believes in this love I can fix him, no, really I can (no, really I can), by leaving an open door/ question, a barely noticeable thread, a slightest chance, If one thing had been different/ Would everything be different today?

✮ ✮ ✮ new ranking ✮ ✮ ✮

  1. Babylon: closest thing to the Taylor we all adore
  2. Pink Clouding: melody’s actually catchy
  3. Cleveland: I enjoy a vibey holiday song, kill me
  4. Patient Zero: the MV certainly distracts the perception
