COOKING / EATING

  • Made Claire’s apple galette for the dozenth time. Put together the apple compote using Trader Joe’s Apple Pie Spread, fresh apples, and apple vinegar. “What’s that smell? Detergent?”
  • Dad made steamed tuskfish (石老); improvising by swapping out 破布子 for 剝皮辣椒. Add a dash of fish sauce to bring out the freshness.
  • Whipped up a creamy tuna with baked potato, onions and carrot stacked underneath. The sauce mix (poured over directly) consisted of mayonnaise (surprised it hadn’t gone bad), heavy cream, grated sharp cheese, boiled potato water, and a packet of Lachs Sahne gratin, you’re welcome.
  • Made 麻油雞麵線, a soup I’d been craving ever since eyeing that bottle of dark sesame oil sitting in the common area.
  • Sunday pancakes at home followed by Dim sum with my parents: Mom’s must-have: 香煎韭菜餅 and mine: 香茜腐皮卷.
  • Dad drove 30min down winding alleys between crop fields to reach a couch shop/ bakery, only to find it completely sold out. Nooooo. So we drove another 20min to secure the best taro Boston cake pie in the area.

HAPPENINGS

  • Mayor elections are next month, which means higher chances of a typhoon break and more uninterrupted time to organize my thoughts and blog.
  • s came over for a girls’ chat about boundaries with family, UK dating chronicles, and the Chinese, all the while d took long walks and hid out in the park.
  • Went to the outlet with every intention of buying something, especially with the likelihood of my parents funding the spree. However, I couldn’t find a single thing of quality/personality and left empty-handed for the very first time. You’ve grown up, Mom said, clutching a large bag of black and white sweaters.
  • Accompanied Tiff to 月老, where we sacrificed two Bueno bars and a bag of Werther’s soft caramel in exchange for a decent man. Afterward, we headed to ALL DAY ROASTING COMPANY to review her list of must-have nice-to-have qualities, one being non-complex family dynamics, and invests in legal assets.

EDITING (d TAKES ALL CREDIT)

  • Introduced HEX color palette to staging
  • Introduced archive drafting post folder
  • Added new dark modes named Birthday and Lombard (St.)
  • Added an All Posts page, sorted by tags
  • Re-tagged a bunch of posts
  • Added a (<-- explore) hover text feature to the tags filter
  • Aligned tags to the center with post titles flowing up to the center of the frame
  • Configured publish_source to use the RSS clippings post title

REPLACING (MYSELF)

  • N summarizes my project progress and organizes the meeting minutes index page
  • tx asked whether the new project was what I was meant to do, rather than wrestling with equity and spreadsheets. He’d even proposed to take me directly under his wing as a strategist (whatever that means). TBF, working with text and “humans” has always been my forte, though whether it’s a skill I should lean into remains the question.
  • Maintaining simultaneously a Teams Excel (live?) and Google Sheets is purely idiotic, necessitated entirely by accommodating one company’s security paranoia over the other. Thankfully with Q, I now download the updated data from one end, have it identify the change, and merge.
  • Recorded meeting notes are the greatest invention ever. I pull new RFIs straight from the transcripts and my hand notes, then Q drafts requests in Chi/Eng. All I do is tweak the misheard employee and platform names.
  • d has officially identified me as a meat proxy.
  • Web browser skill/desktop browser is Q with eyes and hands.
